A slowly progressive dementia, typically in the oldest-old, often with mild amnestic deficits and a less severely impaired cognitive presentation. Neuropathologically there are neurofibrillary tangles with or without minimal plaques or other findings, distinguishing it from Alzheimer disease and other primary neurodegenerative dementias.
