The occurrence of occlusive medium to large artery disease occurring months to years following therapeutic cranial irradiation resulting in thrombosis and infarction. Pathologically, there may be thickened vessels with endothelial proliferation, fibrinoid necrosis and widespread microthrombosis. Neuroimaging and cerebral angiography may aid in the diagnosis.
