This is bleeding into the subarachnoid space – the area between the arachnoid membrane and the pia mater surrounding the brain. It does not result from an aneurysm, but from bleeding in which the blood is limited to the subarachnoid spaces around the midbrain (i.e. mesencephalon). The origin of the blood is uncertain.
