Encephalopathy due to lead (Q86148)
From determinar.ia.br - Determine suas informações
Lead encephalopathy is much rarer in adults than in children because the mature adult brain is more able to sequester lead away from its mitochondrial site of action within cerebral and cerebellar neurons. Lead acts as a cellular toxin by inhibiting mitochondrial respiration. Lesions in the central nervous system are thought to be the result of vascular injury.
