A condition of the skin, caused by an infection with the parasitic worm Onchocerca volvulus. This condition is characterised by subcutaneous nodules containing the parasitic worm (commonly affecting the iliac crests, ribs, knees, or trochanters). Transmission is through the bite of an infected Simulium fly. Confirmation is by identification of Onchocerca volvulus in a skin sample.
