In immunoglobulin A (IgA) nephropathy immunohistology shows granular IgA deposits usually throughout the mesangium . This can be associated with any of the light microscopic forms of proliferative glomerulonephritis, minimal or no light microscopic abnormality. Though the cause is unknown in most cases, the same appearance occurs in IgA vasculitis (Henoch-Schönlein purpura) and a variety of other diseases. Idiopathic IgA disease is probably the world’s most common form of glomerulonephritis.
