An acquired disease of the muscle due to excess body fat, as measured by Body Mass Index (BMI). Among adults, a BMI of over 25 indicates that the patient falls with the overweight category, and a BMI of over 30 suggests that the patient falls within the obese category. The indicators, cut-offs and reference values used to define overweight and obesity in children and adolescents are age- and sex-dependent.
