Chronic atheromatous arterial occlusive disease of sufficient severity to cause ischaemic pain at rest. Symptoms are usually most prominent in the calf but the thigh or buttock may also be affected. The risk of progression to critical ischaemia calls for full assessment of the peripheral arterial circulation so that measures may be taken to prevent such progression.
