Median raphe cysts are formed from epithelial remnants thought either to be trapped as a result of defective fusion of the urethral folds during embryonic formation of the male urethra or as anomalous outgrowths of the epithelium after primary closure. They can develop at any site along the midline of the ventral aspect of the penis, scrotum or perineum. They may not present until adolescence or adult life when one or more ventral midline cystic swellings are noted
