A condition characterised by a complete restriction in arterial blood supply to tissues of the kidney due to the lodging of an embolus, such as a blood clot, a fat globule or a gas bubble, in the bloodstream causing a blockage. This causes in a shortage of oxygen and glucose needed for cellular metabolism and results in the death of kidney tissue cells.
