Envenomation from contact with the marine hydrozoans Physalia physalis (Atlantic Portuguese man-of-war) or Physalia utriculus (Indo-Pacific Portuguese man-of-war), which presents acutely with severe pain distributed like a whip lash with multiple long thin linear urticarial weals which may blister and ulcerate. Systemic involvement with shock, haemolysis and respiratory failure may occur.
