A variante de Marbug da esclerose múltipla é uma variante rara, aguda e monofásica da EM. Por definição, é uma encefalomielite desmielinizante inflamatória grave que leva a óbito dentro de um período de 1 ano após início da doença. As lesões da forma de Marburg são mais difusas do que aquelas do protótipo de EM, com desmielinização inflamatória ocorrendo ou de forma difusa ou em lesões multifocais.
