Envenomation resulting from a sting by any one of the many known species of scorpion. Clinical manifestations are usually localised pain and swelling but a bite by the North American bark scorpion, Centruroides sculpturatus, may cause systemic illness with tachypnoea, tachycardia, hypertension, weakness and muscle spasms.
