A congenital cardiovascular malformation in which the course of the ascending aorta or its remnant is abnormal relative to the course of the pulmonary trunk or its remnant. The normal course of the proximal great vessels results in a nearly orthogonal relationship of the axis of the aorta to the axis of the pulmonary trunk.
