Penetrating skin injury by the spines and pedicellariae of by sea-urchins, starfish and sea cucumbers, causing acute intense localised burning pain. Some species inject venom from their pedicellariae, producing oedema, blistering and occasionally skin necrosis: injected venom may rarely cause systemic toxicity.
