A mucinose folicular é um padrão de reação cutânea caracterizado clinicamente por placas infiltradas com folículos pilosos proeminentes, a partir dos quais a mucina às vezes pode ser eliminada, e perda de cabelo; e histologicamente pelo acúmulo de glicosaminoglicanos ácidos na glândula sebácea e na bainha radicular externa do folículo. As características clínicas são variadas com poucas ou muitas pápulas ou placas confinadas a uma área localizada ou amplamente distribuídas. As causas são pouco compreendidas, mas uma proporção de casos está associada ao linfoma cutâneo de células T e essa possibilidade deve ser excluída antes que o diagnóstico de mucinose folicular idiopática possa ser feito. | |||

Follicular mucinosis is a cutaneous reaction pattern characterised clinically by infiltrated plaques with prominent hair follicles, from which mucin can sometimes be expressed, and loss of hair; and histologically by the accumulation of acid glycosaminoglycans in the sebaceous gland and the outer root sheath of the follicle. The clinical appearances are varied with few or many papules or plaques confined to a localised area or widely distributed. The causes are poorly understood but a proportion of cases are associated with cutaneous T-cell lymphoma and this possibility must be excluded before a diagnosis of idiopathic follicular mucinosis can be made. | |||

The clinical appearances are varied with few or many papules or plaques confined to a localised area or widely distributed.
