Dementia due to a parasitic disease (also known as Chagas disease), caused by Trypanosoma cruzi, which can present in the acute phase as a meningoencephalitis and chronic phase with abnormal deep tendon reflexes. There can be both motor and sensory symptoms. There should be supportive clinical, imaging and laboratory features of the disease without another identifiable cause of cognitive dysfunction.
