Dementia due to Whipple disease, a rare bacterial infection primarily affecting the small intestine caused by the bacterium Tropheryma whipplei, with supportive clinical, imaging and laboratory features of the disease without another identifiable cause of cognitive dysfunction. Those with central nervous system involvement frequently have cognitive symptoms, psychiatric signs and movement disorders.
