Rare disorder consisting of rapid, rhythmic, involuntary movements of the soft palate with audible clicks. Categorized as essential palatal tremor (EPT) or symptomatic palatal tremor (SPT). EPT reflects the rhythmic activation of the tensor veli palatini muscles and has no known pathologic basis. SPT is caused by a diverse group of brainstem lesions that interrupt the central tegmental tracts.
