Sunstroke is a special form of a heatstroke caused by intense sun exposure on the uncovered head. This can, but does not have to, occur during outdoor work or physical activity. Symptoms include meningeal irritation, headache, confusion, dizziness, as well as nausea or vomiting. As for heatstroke, sunstroke is a life-threatening medical emergency clinically defined as a rectal temperature of often, but not always, above 40.5°C, characterized by central nervous system anomalies like confusion, delirium, convulsions, as well as concomitant signs of organ system failure.
