Oral candidosis characterised by marked soreness and denuded atrophic erythematous mucous membranes, particularly on the dorsum of the tongue. It may follow pseudomembranous candidosis, when traces of the residual membrane will often be found. It is especially associated with antibacterial antibiotic therapy, but may also develop in HIV-positive subjects and patients taking inhaled steroids.
