Lupus vulgaris is a form of cutaneous tuberculosis arising in individuals with a strong cell-mediated immunity against M. tuberculosis. It presents as a slowly expanding plaque containing multiple reddish-brown granulomatous dermal papules. As the plaque expands it causes local scarring and, in longstanding cases, extensive tissue damage.
