Lupoid sycosis is a destructive, chronic inflammatory form of deep bacterial folliculitis in which follicles are progressively replaced by scar tissue. Inflammatory follicular papules and pustules coalesce into oedematous plaques around the advancing margin, behind which is left a pink atrophic scar. The process usually begins in front of one ear or under the chin and extends irregularly in any direction. The scalp may be extensively involved.
