Síndrome de fibromialgia (SFM) é uma forma de dor crônica generalizada, que é definida como dor difusa em pelo menos 4 das 5 regiões do corpo, que persiste ou é recorrente por mais de 3 meses e está associada a sofrimento emocional significativo (ansiedade, raiva/frustração ou humor deprimido) ou incapacidade funcional (interferência nas atividades da vida diária e redução da participação nos papéis sociais). A fibromialgia é multifatorial: fatores biológicos, psicológicos e sociais contribuem para a síndrome dolorosa. SFM está associada a distúrbios do sono, disfunção cognitiva e sintomas somáticos. Os sintomas estão presentes em um nível semelhante há pelo menos 3 meses e não são melhores explicados por outro diagnóstico específico.

Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is a form of chronic widespread pain, which is defined as diffuse pain in at least 4 of 5 body regions, that persists or recurs for longer than 3 months, and is associated with significant emotional distress (anxiety, anger/frustration or depressed mood) or functional disability (interference in daily life activities and reduced participation in social roles). FMS is multifactorial: biological, psychological and social factors contribute to the pain syndrome. FMS is associated with sleep disorders, cognitive dysfunction and somatic symptoms. The symptoms have been present at a similar level for at least 3 months and are not better accounted for by another specific diagnosis.
