Pitiríase rósea é uma doença de pele aguda e autolimitada, provavelmente de origem infecciosa, que afeta principalmente crianças e adultos jovens, e caracterizada por uma erupção cutânea distintiva e sintomas constitucionais mínimos. A causa da pitiríase rósea é desconhecida, mas muitas características epidemiológicas e clínicas sugerem que um agente infeccioso pode estar envolvido. Na maioria dos casos, a doença segue um curso característico no qual uma lesão chamada placa-mãe, maior do que as lesões subsequentes, aparece vários dias antes da erupção de múltiplas máculas róseas escamosas predominantemente no tronco e região proximal dos membros. | |||

Pityriasis rosea is an acute, self-limiting skin disease, probably infective in origin, affecting mainly children and young adults, and characterised by a distinctive skin eruption and minimal constitutional symptoms. The cause of pityriasis rosea is uncertain, but many epidemiological and clinical features suggest that an infective agent may be implicated. In the majority of cases the disease follows a characteristic course whereby a so-called herald patch, larger than subsequent lesions, appears several days before the eruption of multiple oval scaly pink macules over the trunk and proximal limbs predominantly. | |||

The cause of pityriasis rosea is uncertain, but many epidemiological and clinical features suggest that an infective agent may be implicated.
