Dermatose eczematosa inflamatória crônica geneticamente determinada, associada com uma diátese atópica (níveis elevados de IgE circulante, alergia Tipo I, asma e rinite alérgica). Mutações nas filagrinas, com comprometimento da função de barreira da epiderme, são importantes na patogênese. O eczema atópico manifesta-se por prurido intenso, exsudação, formação de crostas, escoriações e liquenificação. A face e áreas não flexurais são frequentemente acometidas em bebês; envolvimento das dobras dos membros pode ser visto em qualquer idade. Embora geralmente limitado em extensão e duração, o eczema atópico pode ser generalizado e persistir por toda a vida. | |||

Filaggrin mutations resulting in impaired epidermal barrier function are important in its pathogenesis. Atopic eczema is manifested by intense pruritus, exudation, crusting, excoriation and lichenification. The face and non-flexural areas are often involved in infants; involvement of the limb flexures may be seen at any age.
