Encoprese é a eliminação repetida de fezes em locais inapropriados que ocorre repetidamente (p.ex., pelo menos uma vez por mês durante um período de vários meses) em um indivíduo que alcançou uma idade de desenvolvimento na qual a continência fecal é normalmente esperada (4 anos). A incontinência fecal pode estar presente desde o nascimento (ou seja, uma extensão atípica da incontinência infantil normal), ou pode ter surgido após um período em que o controle intestinal havia sido adquirido. The faecal incontinence may have been present from birth (i.e., an atypical extension of normal infantile incontinence), or may have arisen following a period of acquired bowel control.
