Transtornos do desenvolvimento intelectual são um grupo de condições de etiologias diferentes que se originam durante o período de desenvolvimento, caracterizadas por funcionalidade intelectual e comportamento adaptativo significativamente abaixo da média, que estão aproximadamente dois ou mais desvios padrão abaixo da média (aproximadamente menor do que o percentil 2,3), baseado em testes padronizados adequadamente normatizados e administrados individualmente. Quando testes adequadamente normatizados e padronizados não estão disponíveis, o diagnóstico de transtornos do desenvolvimento intelectual exige maior dependência do julgamento clínico baseado em avaliação apropriada de indicadores comportamentais comparáveis. | |||

Disorders of intellectual development are a group of etiologically diverse conditions originating during the developmental period characterised by significantly below average intellectual functioning and adaptive behaviour that are approximately two or more standard deviations below the mean (approximately less than the 2.3rd percentile), based on appropriately normed, individually administered standardized tests. Where appropriately normed and standardized tests are not available, diagnosis of disorders of intellectual development requires greater reliance on clinical judgment based on appropriate assessment of comparable behavioural indicators. | |||

Disorders of intellectual development are a group of etiologically diverse conditions originating during the developmental period characterised by significantly below average intellectual functioning and adaptive behaviour that are approximately two or more standard deviations below the mean (approximately less than the 2.3rd percentile), based on appropriately normed, individually administered standardized tests. Where appropriately normed and standardized tests are not available, diagnosis of disorders of intellectual development requires greater reliance on clinical judgment based on appropriate assessment of comparable behavioural indicators.
