Agorafobia é caracterizada por medo ou ansiedade proeminente e excessiva, que ocorre em resposta a várias situações nas quais poderia ser difícil escapar ou ajuda poderia não estar disponível, como usar transporte público, estar em multidões, estar fora de casa sozinho (p.ex., em lojas, teatros, em uma fila).
