Demência devida ao uso de inalantes voláteis é caracterizada pelo desenvolvimento de comprometimentos cognitivos persistentes (ex. problemas de memória, comprometimento da linguagem, e uma incapacidade de desempenhar tarefas motoras complexas) que preenchem os critérios diagnósticos para demência e são considerados consequência direta do uso ou exposição a inalantes voláteis e que persistem além da duração habitual da ação ou da síndrome de abstinência associada à substância. A quantidade e duração do uso ou exposição ao inalante volátil devem ser suficientes para produzir o comprometimento cognitivo. O comprometimento cognitivo não é mais bem explicado por um transtorno que não seja induzido por inalantes voláteis, tal como a demência devida a outra condição médica. | |||

Dementia due to use of volatile inhalants is characterised by the development of persistent cognitive impairments (e.g., memory problems, language impairment, and an inability to perform complex motor tasks) that meet the definitional requirements of Dementia that are judged to be a direct consequence of inhalant use or exposure and that persist beyond the usual duration of action or withdrawal syndrome associated with the substance. The amount and duration of inhalant use or exposure must be sufficient to be capable of producing the cognitive impairment. The cognitive impairment is not better accounted for by a disorder that is not induced by volatile inhalants such as a dementia due to another medical condition. | |||
