A puberdade precoce central é definida como o início das manifestações puberais antes dos 8 anos de idade nas meninas e antes dos 9,5 anos nos meninos devido à superprodução do hormônio liberador de gonadotrofina (GnRH) pelo hipotálamo. Pode ser idiopática, sem causa aparente (90% dos casos em meninas, 50% dos casos em meninos) ou secundária a uma lesão (tumor ou malformação) no hipotálamo. Outras causas podem incluir lesão cerebral traumática ou alterações genéticas, que afetam o desenvolvimento comportamental e psicológico, e a altura corporal final. | |||

Central precocious puberty is defined as the onset of pubertal changes before 8 years of age in girls and before 9.5 years of age in boys due to the overproduction of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) by the hypothalamus. It may be idiopathic with no apparent cause (90% of cases in girls, 50% of cases in boys) or secondary to a lesion (tumour or malformation) in the hypothalamus. Other causes may include traumatic brain injury, or genetic disorders, affecting behavioural and psychological development, and final body height. | |||
