Doença causada por uma infecção pelo verme parasita Loa loa. Esta doença é caracterizada por edemas de Calabar encontrados em qualquer parte do corpo (comumente perto de articulações). Esta doença também pode se manifestar com prurido generalizado, dor muscular, dor articular, fadiga ou pode ser assintomática. A transmissão se dá pela picada de uma mosca infectada (gênero Chrysops). A confirmação é feita pela identificação da forma adulta de Loa loa na pele ou olho, microfilárias de Loa loa em uma amostra de sangue obtida no mesmo dia (1000 - 1400) ou detecção de anticorpos contra Loa loa em uma amostra de sangue. | |||

This disease may also present with generalised itching, muscle pain, joint pain, fatigue or may be asymptomatic. Transmission is through the bite of an infected fly (genus Chrysops).
