Doença causada pelo protozoário parasita Babesia. Esta doença é caracterizada por reprodução e lise de eritrócitos levando a sintomas que dependem do nível de parasitemia e do estado imunológico do indivíduo infectado. Esta doença pode se manifestar com febre, calafrios, mal-estar, mialgia, anemia hemolítica, choque, ou pode ser assintomática. A transmissão ocorre por meio da picada de um carrapato (Ixodes) infectado, ou transmissão vertical. A confirmação é feita pela identificação de Babesia em um esfregaço de sangue ou detecção de anticorpos contra Babesia. | |||
