Doença causada por uma infecção pelo parasita protozoário Leishmania. Esta doença é caracterizada por febre bifásica, hepatoesplenomegalia, pancitopenia, consumpção, escurecimento da pele, ou pode ser assintomática. A transmissão ocorre através da picada de um flebotomíneo fêmea infectado. A confirmação é feita pela identificação de Leishmania em uma amostra de tecido ou sangue, ou detecção de anticorpos contra Leishmania.

A disease caused by an infection with the protozoan parasite Leishmania. This disease is characterised by biphasic fever, hepatosplenomegaly, pancytopenia, wasting, darkening of the skin, or may be asymptomatic. Transmission is through the bite of an infected female phlebotomine sandfly. Confirmation is by identification of Leishmania from a tissue or blood sample, or detection of antibodies against Leishmania.
