Doença geralmente causada por uma infecção pela bactéria gram-negativa Bartonella bacilliformis. Essa doença é caracterizada por anemia hemolítica grave e imunossupressão transitória. Pode se manifestar com febre, mal-estar ou icterícia. A transmissão se dá pela picada de flebotomíneos infectados do gênero Lutzomyia. A confirmação é feita pela identificação de Bartonella bacilliformis em uma amostra de sangue. | |||
