Doença do trato respiratório superior, causada por uma infecção pela bactéria gram-negativa Bordetella parapertussis. Essa doença geralmente se apresenta com uma apresentação clínica leve de tosse paroxística, estridor inspiratório e desmaios ou vômitos após tosse. A transmissão ocorre por inalação de secreções respiratórias infectadas. A confirmação é feita pela identificação de Bordetella parapertussis em amostras de nasofaringe ou escarro, ou detecção de anticorpos contra Bordetella parapertussis.

A disease of the upper respiratory tract, caused by an infection of the gram-negative bacteria Bordetella parapertussis. This disease typically presents with a mild clinical presentation of paroxysmal cough, inspiratory whoop, and fainting or vomiting after coughing. Transmission is by inhalation of infected respiratory secretions. Confirmation is by identification of Bordetella parapertussis from nasopharyngeal samples or sputum, or detection of antibodies against Bordetella parapertussis.
