A infecção por Mycobacterium ulcerans (úlcera de Buruli) tipicamente se apresenta como um nódulo subcutâneo que se decompõe para formar uma úlcera profunda e indolor que comumente atinge um tamanho de 15 cm de diâmetro, mas pode se estender ainda mais e causar extenso dano ao tecido. O organismo é encontrado em zonas úmidas de regiões tropicais e subtropicais do mundo, particularmente na África.
Qualquer condição causada por uma infecção por Micobacteria, excluindo infecções causadas pelo complexo Mycobacterium tuberculosis e Mycobacterium leprae. Essas condições geralmente se manifestam com doença pulmonar; no entanto, os sintomas dependem do local da infecção. A transmissão se dá por contato direto com micobactérias não tuberculosas do ambiente. A confirmação é feita pela identificação de micobactérias não tuberculosas no(s) local(is) afetado(s).

Mycobacterium ulcerans infection (Buruli ulcer) typically presents as a subcutaneous nodule which breaks down to form a deep painless ulcer which commonly reaches a size of 15 cm in diameter but may extend further to cause extensive tissue damage. The organism is found in wetlands of tropical and subtropical regions of the world, particularly Africa.

These conditions commonly present with lung disease; however, symptoms are dependent on the site of infection. Transmission is by direct contact with non-tuberculous Mycobacteria in the environment.
