This refers to inflammation of the small intestine due to infection with nontyphoidal Salmonella, bacteria of the genus Salmonella, a member of the family Enterobacteriaceae. Bacteria of the genus Salmonella are rod-shaped, Gram-negative, non-spore-forming and predominantly motile.
