This is a potentially deadly medical condition characterised by a whole-body inflammatory state (called a systemic inflammatory response syndrome or SIRS) caused by severe infection. This diagnosis is due to a Gram-positive, alpha-haemolytic, aerotolerant anaerobic member of the genus Streptococcus.
