A maioria das neoplasias localizadas na sela túrcica è de adenomas hipofisários benignos derivados de células adeno- hipofisárias. Podem ser removidos com sucesso através da cirurgia transfenoidal minimamente invasiva. No entanto, sua biologia é complexa e podem causar uma variedade de síndromes e distúrbios endócrinos. Acaracterização imunoistoquímica dos adenomas funcionais da hipófise é obrigatória para a conduta, embora não preveja necessariamente os níveis hormonais sistêmicos.

The vast majority of neoplasms located in the sella turcica are benign pituitary adenomas derived from adenohypophysial cells. In many cases, they can be succesfully removed by minimally invasive transphenoidal surgery. However, their biology is complex and they can cause a variety of endocrine syndromes and disorders. The immunohistochemical characterization of functionnal pituitary adenomas is mandatory for patient management, although it does not necessarily predict systemic hormone levels.
