Chronic primary temporomandibular myofascial pain is defined as chronic orofacial pain in the masseter or temporalis muscle(s) that occurs for at least 2 hours per day on at least 50% of the days during at least three months. It is characterized by significant emotional distress (anxiety, anger/frustration or depressed mood) or functional disability (interference in daily life activities and reduced participation in social roles) and in particular with orofacial function such as eating, yawning, speaking etc. Chronic primary temporomandibular myofascial pain is multifactorial.
