A benign melanocytic neoplasm with a characteristic clinical appearance arising most commonly during childhood. Typically it develops rapidly over the course of weeks or months into a smooth dome-shaped reddish-brown papule or nodule. It can be difficult to differentiate histologically from melanoma.
