Hemichorea, defined as unilateral involuntary arrhythmic movements of a forcible, rapid, jerky type, occurring as a result of hyperosmolar hyperglycemic nonketotic syndrome (HNHS), a complication of poorly managed Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. HHNS is defined as glucose over 600 mg/dL, arterial pH over 7.30, low serum ketones and an elevated effective serum osmolarity over 320 mOsm/kg. Most frequently reported in females and elderly population, and symptoms usually resolve upon normalization of glucose levels.
