Infecção de um ou mais nervos periféricos por bactérias. A infecção pode envolver a parte intraespinal ou extraespinal do nervo periférico. As manifestações clínicas dependem de qual nervo ou nervos periféricos são afetados. Pode haver outros sinais e sintomas sistêmicos dependendo do agente infeccioso. O diagnóstico é feito considerando os achados clínicos no contexto de achados de neuroimagem, análise e cultura do líquido cefalorraquidiano, testes de reação em cadeia da polimerase, testes sorológicos e biópsia quando apropriado.

An infection of one or more peripheral nerves by bacteria. The infection may involve the intraspinal or extraspinal part of the peripheral nerve. The clinical features depend on which peripheral nerve or nerves are affected. There may be other systemic signs and symptoms depending on the infectious agent. Diagnosis is made by considering the clinical findings in the context of neuroimaging findings, spinal fluid analysis and culture, polymerase chain reaction tests, serologic tests, and biopsy where appropriate.
