Processo inflamatório do cérebro, frequentemente com evidência de envolvimento meníngeo, devido a infecção por um Lyssavírus de morcego europeu tipos 1 e 2. As manifestações clínicas são geralmente agudas, com febre e combinações variáveis de convulsões, estado mental comprometido e déficits focais. O líquido cefalorraquidiano pode mostrar uma reação celular e proteína elevada. O diagnóstico é feito por neuroimagem, análise e cultura do líquido cefalorraquidiano, PCR e testes sorológicos.

The spinal fluid may show a cellular reaction and elevated protein. Diagnosis is by neuroimaging, spinal fluid analysis and culture, PCR, and serologic tests.
