Processo inflamatório do cérebro, frequentemente com evidência de envolvimento meníngeo, devido a infecção por enterovírus dos tipos 68-71. As manifestações clínicas são geralmente agudas, com febre e combinações variáveis de convulsões, estado mental comprometido e déficits focais. O líquido cefalorraquidiano pode mostrar uma reação celular e proteína elevada. O diagnóstico é feito por neuroimagem, análise e cultura do líquido cefalorraquidiano , PCR e testes sorológicos.

An inflammatory process of the brain, frequently with evidence of meningeal involvement, due to infection by enterovirus types 68-71. The clinical manifestations are usually acute, with fever and variable combinations of convulsions, impaired mental state, and focal deficits. The spinal fluid may show a cellular reaction and elevated protein. Diagnosis is by neuroimaging, spinal fluid analysis and culture, PCR, and serologic tests.
