Transtorno inflamatório da medula espinal devido à infecção pelo vírus Ebstein Barr. Os sintomas e sinais podem ser agudos ou subagudos no início e incluem paraparesia ou paraplegia, perda sensorial apropriada com o nível da medula espinhal afetada, perda do controle do esfíncter e sinais do neurônio motor inferior. O diagnóstico pode ser confirmado por neuroimagem, análise e cultura do líquido cefalorraquidiano e ensaio de PCR.

An inflammatory disorder of the spinal cord due to infection by Ebstein Barr virus. The symptoms and signs may be acute or subacute in onset, and include paraparesis or paraplegia, sensory loss appropriate with the level of the spinal cord affected, loss of sphincter control, and lower motor neurone signs. Diagnosis may be confirmed by neuroimaging, spinal fluid analysis and culture, and PCR assay.
