Autoimmune opsoclonus myoclonus (OM) is an immune mediated inflammatory eye movement disorder [see opsoclonus myoclonus definition] which is not associated with an underlying cancer. Patients may have a personal or family history of other autoimmune disorders. Accompanying neural autoantibodies may be found (e.g. glutamic acid decarboxylase 65 antibodies) while non-organ specific autoantibodies may also give a clue to a potential autoimmune etiology. Cancer screening for neuroblastomas in children and lung and breast cancers in adults is recommended to exclude paraneoplastic OM. Associated autoantibodies: GAD65 (glutamic acid decarboxylase-65 antibodies).
