Kasabach-Merritt syndrome is characterised by the association of a vascular tumour with severe thrombopaenia and various degrees of consumption coagulopathy (most commonly marked by decreased levels of fibrinogen, presence of elevated levels of soluble complexes, and very high levels of D-dimers).
