Erythroderma is the term applied to a persistent inflammatory erythema, typically lasting at least several weeks, affecting more than 90% of the skin surface. It may be due to a range of inflammatory and neoplastic processes include eczema, psoriasis, drugs and lymphoma. If unqualified, it should be considered a provisional diagnosis, although it is not always possible to identify a specific underlying cause even after extensive investigation. Whatever the cause it can be life-threatening as a result of high output cardiac failure or heat loss resulting in hypothermia.
